Larger Graphics in Director than outside

Why do my graphics display a much larger file size in Director than as external files?

Any graphic format like JPEG, PNG, etc is a compressed format. Director stored the info for this but will use an uncompressed version at authoring for faster playback, standard data storage, etc. Once saved as Shockwave or a compressed projector the graphics will revert to the smaller size and compression provided that you have not edited them in Director's paint window.
